One of the most beautiful and underrated places to visit and live in the United States, the Phoenix metropolitan area offers many smaller cities/areas in which to explore. The year round sun makes outdoor activities both easy and difficult. While the typical winter and fall months are lovely to spend in central Arizona, the summers can be brutal. Papago Park
On the border of Scottsdale and Tempe lies possibly the most famous park in the Phoenix area. The park is home to the Phoenix Zoo and the Desert Botanical Gardens. The park is open from sunrise until sunset and comes complete with hiking trails. The ramadas, covered areas that can handle barbecues, are free to rent at all other Phoenix public parks. However, at Papago they must be reserved online before usage.

Margaret T Hance Park
Close to downtown and straddling I-10 is this lovely urban space with a Japanese Garden. The park was renovated in 2016 If you are looking to rent the space for a small festival, call ahead for info: 602-534-2407.

Civic Event Space
Located in the heart of downtown, this sustainable park utilizes methods in order to keep it up to date with the latest environmental codes. With over 70% of the park shaded, it can be used year round. It has access to the light rail and bus stops and was built with 0 parking spaces to encourage public transport usage. If you will have more than 50 guests you need to apply for a special permit.

Encanto Park
Sitting in the northwest park of downtown, and home to 27 holes of golf, this park has it all. There are 222 acres of a lush oasis and a swimming pool for the hot times of the year. They have a picnic area that can be rented for larger events, call 602-262-6412. In addition, there is a clubhouse that can be rented for $750 for a four hour minimum.

Granada Park
A 15 minute drive north of downtown sits this park. It has free picnic rental areas, a playground for the kids, and lighted tennis courts.
